Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Washington Post’s web site team to shape the future of our award winning website www.washingtonpost.com. The candidate will be an expert in back end technologies and will help in developing the next generation of online experiences as well as enhance existing core features. In particular, our team is looking for a candidate who has experience; ambition and passion for software development and who can be leader within the software development team.

iOS Developer | Responsibilities:

  • Technical Design: Analyze application requirements and provide recommended technical design solutions that are efficient, scalable, maintainable, and accurately meet the needs of the business
  • Development: Develop new software and make enhancements to washingtonpost.com web applications using standard software development tools and agile development methodologies
  • Maintenance: Participate in resolving challenging and demanding problems within the production environment. Ensure SLA metrics (performance, availability, usage, and security) are met and tracked
  • Service / Support: Participate in 24×7 production software support; assist with business and customer inquiries and resolution of problems
  • Research and make recommendations on software tools, new approaches and new technologies

iOS Developer | Requirements:

  • 4 year Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science or related
  • 4 + years of  Java/J2EE application design and development experience
  • Experience using web frameworks
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, especially SCRU
  • Strong analysis skills with a thorough understanding of application and infrastructure bottlenecks
  • Experienced supporting a production application, including deployments, troubleshooting, and tuning, preferably using Glassfish
  • Excellent knowledge of object oriented analysis, design and programming (OOA/OOD/OOP), MVC and other design patterns
  • Experience developing on UNIX platforms 
Strong knowledge of XML and related technologies such as XSD, JAXB, XSLT
  • Must be proficient with Ant, CVS, JSP, Servlets, SQL, HTML
  • Experienced building unit tests, especially using JUnit (ind123)
